Seken Karimuly Turysbekov was born on March 22, 1961, in Urzhar District of East Kazakhstan Region.He is a Kazakh composer, kuy performer, and dombra player.He graduated from the Semipalatinsk Music College and later from the Almaty Conservatory (now the Kazakh National Conservatory) under the supervision of M. Aubakirov. After graduating from the conservatory, he worked as a member of the “Sazgen” ensemble. In 2001, he was appointed Artistic Director of the “Qonyr Qaz” ensemble at the Eurasian University.WorksSaken Turysbekov is the author of the kuys “Kөңіл толқыны”, “Bozdaq”, “Өkіnіsh”, “Aqjarma”, “Aq Jauyn”, “Balausa”, “Daraboz”, “Uly Dala” and others, as well as the songs “Aqqu sazy”, “Erke qusym”, “Koktemim menin”, “Qonyr Qaz”, and “Shagala”. Awards: 1989 — Laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Kazakhstan; 1992 — Honored Artist of Kazakhstan; 2011 — Order of “Qurmet”; 2017 — Order of “Parasat”; 2023 — Laureate of the Abai State Prize. According to Order No. 10 dated January 20, 2026, issued by the Head of the Department of Culture, Language Development and Archives of Abai Region, Seken Turysbekov was appointed Director of the Amre Kashaubayev State Philharmonic. Until this appointment, he served as Artistic Director of the “Aq Jauyn” Folk Instruments Orchestra of the Almaty Regional Philharmonic named after Suyinbay.
