Omarov Gani Kalikhanuly

Omarov Ghani Kalikhanuly (03.06.1961) is an associate professor at the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology, and Museology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and a candidate of historical sciences. His main research topic is the archaeology of ancient times in East Kazakhstan.
Since 1989, he has been engaged in the study of Bronze, Early Iron, and Turkic period monuments in the northern Tarbagatai, Shyngyrau, and Altai regions. He was part of the Kazakh-French joint archaeological expedition, studying the burial mounds of the Saka period in the Berel necropolis, and in 1999 he participated in comprehensive research in the Markakol district of East Kazakhstan as part of the Kazakh-Russian joint archaeological expedition. In 2003, he took part in the archaeological expedition in the Shilikti valley, and in 2004, he contributed to comprehensive archaeological research in Western Kazakhstan, participating in excavation and survey work. From 2008 to 2011, he conducted archaeological research and surveys in the Uyghentass expedition, as well as in the archaeological sites of the Saka and Turkic periods and medieval cities.
Under the leadership of Gh. Omarov, significant research work was successfully carried out on the topics "Archaeological Monuments of Kurchum District, East Kazakhstan Region," "Ancient and Medieval Nomads of Southwest Altai: Interdisciplinary Research," and "Archaeological Monuments of Urzhar District, East Kazakhstan Region," and from 2018 to 2020, on the topic "The Sacred Space and Burial Rituals of the Inhabitants of the Kazakh Altai from Ancient Times to the Middle Ages."
Currently, under the guidance of Ghani Omarov, research is being conducted within the framework of scientific projects announced by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2021-23 on "Archaeological Monuments of Ayagoz District, East Kazakhstan Region: Interdisciplinary Research," and by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan on "Constructive Features of Early Nomads' Burial Mounds in the Shulek-Talgar Interfluve" for 2020-22. Ghani Omarov is a distinguished teacher who has made a significant contribution to the development of domestic archaeology and the training of archaeologist specialists, and is a well-known professional archaeologist in our country and abroad.
