Russian Drama Troupe named after F. M. Dostoevsky.
(City of SEMEY, ABAY Region, Republic of Kazakhstan)
The Professional Russian Theater in Semey was established in 1937 under the name of Lunacharsky, emerging from the "overcoat" of the amateur workers' youth theater named after Mirzoyan.
In 1975, it was named after Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky. The great history of our independent homeland – the Republic of Kazakhstan and our small homeland – the ancient city of Semey is closely connected with it. Fyodor M. Dostoevsky was exiled in Semey for five years (1854-1859). It was here that he wrote the world-famous stories "Auntie’s Dream" and "The Village of Stepanchikovo and Its Inhabitants," marking his return to writing. In our city, Fyodor Dostoevsky was friends with the great son of the Kazakh people, Shokan Ualikhanov. The names of the classics of world literature obligate us to much, and our team strives not only to entertain the audience but also to engage them in philosophical thoughts.
Among the theater fans, there are representatives of various nationalities. The theater team is also multinational, consisting of Russians, Kazakhs, Germans, and Tatars who engage in joint creativity. Over the past 20 years, the F. M. Dostoevsky troupe has become a center of attraction for the residents of Semey and the guests of the city. Tickets are sold not only for premieres but also for regular performances a month in advance.
