The "Regional Historical and Local Lore Museum of Semey" municipal state institution of the Department of Culture, Language Development, and Archive Affairs of the Abai Region,
Branch located in the village of Karauyl, Abai District
In the 1960s, the importance of museum activities was raised in the Abai District, leading to the decision to open a local lore corner in the district's House of Culture. The local lore corner consisted of two small sections: "The Land of Legends" and "Historical Chingistau." The fruitful work was supported by local authorities: the first secretary of the district party committee K. Nurbaev and the chairman of the district executive committee R. Gabdullin allocated the necessary funds for the construction of a special building for the museum. Staff positions were also allocated, and it was proposed to open the museum as a branch of the Semipalatinsk Historical and Local Lore Museum. However, later, for various reasons, the museum was closed, and all work on its establishment was halted.
In the early 2000s, local lore work was revived in the Abai District, resulting in the reopening of the local lore museum in November 2012 as a branch of the regional historical and local lore museum of Semey.
The museum building, originally constructed in 1992 as a store, later housed the veterans' council of the Abai District. Despite these inconveniences, the museum continued its activities without interruption.
According to the decree No. 31 of the Akim of the Abai District T. Musapirbekov dated 21.07.2011, the building located at 8 Moldagaliev Street in the village of Karauyl, which has a total area of 320 square meters, was transferred to the account of the Department of Culture and Language Development of the Abai District.
The exhibition includes topics such as "Archaeology," "Nature of Chingistau," "Ethnography," "Abai, Shakarim, Mukhtar," "History of the Alash Movement," "Abai District during the Great Patriotic War," "Art and Sports of Abai District," and "Notable Names."
Among the valuable artifacts are the belt of the poet and thinker Shakarim Kudaiberdiev, an ancient kebeje (a storage chest), an asadal (a storage cabinet) made in 1922, a phonograph from 1950, and others on display.
Over the years, exhibitions such as "The Nightingale of Kalamkas," "The Mysteries of Forty Caves," "The New Year, Az-Nauryz!," "The Thoughtful Pen Master," and "The Consequences of the Dark Times" have been organized at the museum.
About the Fund
The total fund of the museum consists of 5,256 storage units, including 1,345 in the main fund and 3,911 in the scientific auxiliary fund.
