CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS LIBRARY
The Children and Teenagers Library was opened in 2002 (the official opening ceremony took place in April 2003). The library has become an important cultural place that contributes to the development of the creative potential of the younger generation, expanding their knowledge, and forming social skills. Young readers get acquainted with books, expand their spiritual world, and develop an interest in literature. Currently, the Children and Teenagers Library is a large information and cultural center that provides extensive services to all readers involved in the upbringing of the younger generation in our city. The library has 2 reading rooms and 2 subscription departments serving readers.
In order to attract readers to the library, creative competitions, cultural events, book exhibitions, and creative meetings with popular poets are regularly held in collaboration with educational institutions in our city. By providing services according to age categories, the library plays a special role in developing the reader's abilities and forming their aesthetic taste.
In modern society, in line with increasing literacy through reading, a mobile library service is provided based on the requests of educators from the "Kuanysh" and "Asyl-Zhibek" kindergartens. Additionally, there are two clubs for children of different ages: "Master Hands" for 10-12-year-olds and "Akvarel" for 6-9-year-olds, as well as three clubs for students: "Umka" for grades 1-4, "Shipager" for grades 5-8, and "Zhuldyz" for grades 9-11, which greatly contribute to expanding the minds and developing the creativity of young people. Each library collection has its own goals and unique direction, and while satisfying reader demands, the book collection is replenished with new literature every year. Currently, the library's collection contains 32,710 items of literature, including 6,687 books in the state language. The library's collection has been enriched with valuable information reflecting the rich culture and art of the region through the "Abai Road" library series, increasing readers' interest in the history of their native land. Today, domestic periodicals are being updated according to reader demand. Readers have the opportunity to access information from publications in both Kazakh and Russian languages every year.
Year by year, the number of library readers has also increased, with 3,035 readers registered at the library, and 95 cultural events organized throughout the year, attended by 2,088 readers. Events held under the "Literary Local Studies," "Reading Period," "KitapTime-2025" nationwide book festival, "Book Theater," and "Eco-Stylish Life" new format projects, as well as the "One Country - One Book" campaign, have resonated well with readers and contributed to the increase in the number of readers. By encouraging young people to read books, their linguistic competence is developed, creative skills are enhanced, and through various theatrical performances, the relationship between parents and children is strengthened, exemplified by the puppet theater competition titled "The Fairy Tale Told by My Grandmother," which was held with the participation of school students and received great demand.
Through local history work, the library introduces readers to the history of their homeland, its current situation and future development, the Great Patriotic War and labor veterans, and the creativity of local poets and writers by organizing events such as "The Semey Chronicle Tells..." and "Know Your History!" helping each reader recognize the sacred places of their homeland and understand that knowing your history is the duty of every citizen. Additionally, in honor of the 180th anniversary of the birth of the great Kazakh poet A. Qunanbaev, an online meeting titled "The Giant of World Thought" was held in collaboration with the Abai Regional Children's Library of Karaganda to promote the poet's precious heritage to the younger generation, highlighting his passionate poetry, spiritual legacy, and timeless teachings for future generations.
Through social media, an environment for intellectual interactive communication among youth has been created, and events and interesting information promoted through the @bjk_semey Instagram account aim to increase the activity of libraries on social networks.
